The city of Duluth, located in Gwinnett County, Georgia was originally known as Howell’s Cross Roads (later “Howell’s Crossing”) because of a road built by the towns largest merchant, Evan Howell. The City’s name was changed to Duluth after a north south railroad was approved linking Howell’s Crossing to Duluth, Minnesota. Duluth elected Georgia’s first female Mayor, Alice H. Strickland, in 1922. Duluth is home to the Gwinnett Arena and Gwinnett Convention Center. Forbes magazine ranks Duluth as one of the best places to move in America.
