The city of Cumming, Georgia is largest city and county seat of Forsyth County. The Cherokee tribe was the first to inhibit the city in 1755. The Cherokee’s and Creek tribes fought over the area in a battle called Battle of Taliwa, where the Cherokee prevailed. Once the gold rush hit this area in 1828 the settlers signed a treaty called the Treaty of New Echota that required the Cherokee Tribe to move to the Indian Territory. A reservoir was created by Buford Dam in 1956, that reservoir is now called Lake Lanier. In 2005 the Census showed the population to be 5,802
